TRANSFER YOUR CONCERN, UNCERTAINTY AND DEPRESSION INTO

Happiness

"HAPPINESS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO YOU. YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE HAPPINESS. EVERY DAY AGAIN " - HENRI NOUWEN

Sometimes life is far from joy, peace and laughter. This can be temporary due to circumstances, or because you regularly feel “just” down or depressed. The latter bothered me. There were times when the days weighed heavily on me. Negative thoughts about myself and my environment prevented me from enjoying my life to the fullest.

Choose your thoughts

Over the years I have learned to recognize negative thoughts and turn them into positive truths. I finally started to believe that I’m allowed to be happy! And that I’m worth it! But being happy (daring to be) is a choice.

As Henri Nouwen, the late priest, writer, and professor state: “Joy does not happen to you. You have to choose happiness. Every day again.” There is a great truth in this that I have been able to discover. I didn’t want to wake up depressed every day anymore. I didn’t want to be downhearted anymore, but happy! I chose to work on myself, to choose for more joy in my life.

Do you want more joy in your life? This is also a possibility for you.

TIP: Take a closer look at your thoughts. Do you mainly think positively or negatively? And what do these thoughts come from? Are they constructive stories, or do you mainly listen to the negative? My blogs help you to become more aware of what is going on inside you and how you can become happy again. If you cannot work it out on your own, I recommend that you seek the help of a psychologist or coach. Dare to take the plunge. Because there is a way to happiness.

About Happiness

What is happiness really? The Dutch website Wikipedia gives some explanation about joy and about the ultimate form of joy, namely: happiness. “Joy or gladness is a positive emotion in people or animals, satisfaction with the circumstances or the environment. Those who are happy or experience joy do not experience lack or stress, have positive feelings about themselves or the environment and therefore have no great need to change circumstances. A well-known expression of joy (gladness) is laughter, but sometimes a person can also cry with joy. If those positive feelings of happiness and joy persist for a longer period of time, one speaks of happiness. ”

Words for Happiness

A wise man once wrote: “So eat your bread with joy (gladness), drink your wine with a merry heart. God has long been pleased with everything you do. Always wear cheerful clothes, choose a festive scent. Enjoy life with the woman (man) you love. Enjoy all the days of your life that God has given you. Existence is empty and fleeting and you toil and toil under the sun, so enjoy every day. It is the wages God has given you. Do whatever your hand finds doing. Do it with full commitment. For there are no deeds and thoughts, no knowledge and no wisdom in Hades. You are always on your way there.”

This wise man (name unknown) spent much of his life exploring the “meaning of life.” He wrote down his stories in the Bible book of Ecclesiastes.

So enjoy! This is an assignment that God gives us. How beautiful is that? Maybe you don’t believe in God, even then there are plenty of scientific articles that substantiate that enjoying, and thus generating joy, is better for your health than negativity.

Think happy, Feel happy

The Internet is full of articles and quotes about the pursuit of happiness and joy. So you first have joy as an emotion, which if it lasts longer, gives a state of happiness. But to get there, it is important that you build as many moments of joy into your life as possible. Thinking positively will naturally make you happier. You build joy into your life. But if positive thinking does not come naturally, perhaps because of things you have experienced in your life, or because of what people have said to you and that you have come to believe in it, then it is time you choose to examine your way of thinking, to what extent you feel happy and positive about yourself or others.

What can get in the way of your happiness:

  • Depression (negative feelings, sadness)
  • Negative self-image (“I don’t think I’m beautiful / handsome / intelligent enough.”)
  • Worrying ((“I hope that doesn’t happen to me, but I can’t control it eventhough I would like to.))
  • Believe in what others say / have said about you (“You are not beautiful / handsome / intelligent enough.”)
  • Compare yourself (“She’s prettier / better/ smarter than me.”)
  • Uncertainty (“I’m not sure if I’m doing it well enough or if I’m making the right choice”)
  • Stress (“Aaargh! Hurry up! / It’s too much!”)
  • Believe that nothing good is in store for you (“I don’t think I deserve this.”)
  • Believe that life is not beautiful (“There is so much negativity in the world, I have a hard time enjoying it.”)

If you experience these kinds of things, chances are you can use some extra joy in your life.

“I choose happy thoughts instead of negative ones”

And why can I tell you something about happiness? Are my days always sunny now? No. But years of stress, anxiety, depression, worry, being a perfectionist and a control freak have taught me how to deal with negativity. I also do not always do well, I remain a person with my weaknesses. Especially when I am tired, the negative thoughts come back. But unlike before, I know how to ignore negative thoughts (unless they are justified and I am guilty, but that’s another story, then I can ask others for forgiveness). I now choose happy instead of negative thoughts. Do you want that too?

Let’s look for more happiness together.

I LOVE LIFE AGAIN!

Stella has spent more than half of her life searching for PEACE, CONFIDENCE, and HAPPINESS and she still does this every day. What she learned along the way, through trial and error, she shares with you in her blogs.

Stella is a happily married mother, lives on the coast and loves writing, going out for diner, traveling abroad and gymnastics. In her spare time she sings (not very good but she enjoys it).
